Yumepirika Cultivar
Called the "Queen of Hokkaido rice cultivars", this clean-tasting, non-glutinous rice is characterized by its moderate stickiness and lovely sweetness. When cooked, Yumepirika has a glossy shine, a quality that inspired its naming as “Yume” (dream in Japanese) and “Pirika” (Ainu for to shine). Yumepirika is perhaps the most famous rice cultivar in Hokkaido.
Premium Yumepirika Cultivar
The best of the best from the famed Yumepirika cultivar, the premium selection is grown as organically as possible with less than half the fertilizers and pesticides as compared to standard growing methods. When cooked, Yumepirika has a glossy shine, a quality that inspired its naming as “Yume” (dream in Japanese) and “Pirika” (Ainu for to shine).
Oborozuki Cultivar
A sticky and soft rice variety that grows well in cool climates, Oborozuki contains higher-than-average protein levels with lower-than-average starch.
Hoshinoyume Cultivar
A locally-popular and delicious rice that is regarded as having a “straight” taste with moderate stickiness and light flavor, making it ideal as a base for flavors of the meal-highlights to shine.
Nanatsuboshi Cultivar
The most widely-grown rice cultivar in Hokkaido, Nanatsuboshi has a balanced taste and milder stickiness, while the rice grains do not break easily during cooking. This makes Nanatsuboshi particularly suitable for bentos (lunch boxes) and sushi.
