Hokkaido Kelp & Apple Superfood (Rinko 36g)
The bounty of Hokkaido’s farms and seas are brought together in this natural superfood snack that combines kelp with dried apple slices and goji berries, blending savory, sweet and sour tastes for a healthy and unique snack. The umami of true kelp is combined with the high vitamin content of the rare kagome kelp from the coast off Osatube, along with apples from the sunny orchards of Nanae harvested at the optimum time. Colorful goji berries add a final vitamin punch to round out this superfood snack. Rich in dietary fiber, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron, it contains 134 mg of polyphenol, an important ingredient for health and beauty. Kagome kelp, in particular, has twice the fucoidan (a naturally occurring polysaccharide) of kelp, which boosts the immune system and can inhibit cancer cell growth.
Hokkaido Shaved Kelp (Tororo 30g)
Delicate, pale-green & fluffy - this type of kelp has a soft, mellow-taste and is an addition to many classic Japanese dishes, from soups and rice balls to salads and pickles. Tororo is shaved, dried kelp carefully harvested from the seas off the southern coast of Hokkaido. After harvesting, the kelp is layered and dried in a time-tested method to retain natural vitamins & minerals, then shaved into fine filaments to create an appealing, healthy and flavorful addition to meals. Kagome kelp can only be harvested from limited areas and is prized for its mineral content, having twice the fucoidan (a naturally occurring polysaccharide) of kelp, which boosts the immune system and can inhibit cancer cell growth. Kagome kelp also contains alginic acid (aids blood pressure control), and laminarin (skin moisturizer). The delicate and fluffy tororo absorbs liquids easily, such as in soups or stocks, making it an easy way to increase food volume for dieters.
Hokkaido Stringed Seaweed (Funori 20g)
Funori - a marine algae - is an attractive red seaweed harvested in southern Hokkaido, where the cold Oyashio current meets the warmer Kuroshio current, and rivers from nearby mountains spill their minerals into the sea. The dried algae can be rehydrated and used to top soups and salads for a lovely final touch with a scent and taste of the sea. Recommended rehydration time is 3 minutes depending on the desired texture. Like all kelp & seaweeds, funori seaweed is rich in vitamins, minerals & amino acids, and offers numerous health benefits including weight loss, bone health, reduction in the risks of certain cancers, and improved thyroid health.
Hokkaido Dulse Kelp (Dulse 20g)
Hokkaido Dulse Kelp is a new flavor and texture for many kelp lovers. This dark, reddish-brown kelp is harvested from the cold-water currents around southern Hokkaido. When heated, it changes to green in color with an unusual crispy texture that is favored by chefs who seek original ingredients. The kelp “leaves” - some over half-a-meter long - are harvested annually in February, then washed and dried; all in a 24-hour process. The dried dulse is then cut into pieces for convenient use in a multitude of dishes, including soups, salads, pickles, and even pasta and fried rice. Recently, dulse has gained popularity through features in Japanese cooking shows and food magazines. Academic studies have also attested to its natural health-boosting elements, including being rich in calcium. Dulse is one of Hokkaido's newest kelp creations in a tradition that stretches back centuries on our island. To use: soak in water for 10 minutes and add directly to a variety of dishes.
Hokkaido Kelp & Seaweed Salad Mix (12g)
Five types of kelp & seaweed - funori, dulse, wakame, kagome kelp and true kelp - are carefully selected for their compatibility through generations of southern Hokkaido kelp farmers - combining for a fresh, flavorful and textured salad packed with natural health benefits. Together, the mix is rich in vitamins, minerals & amino acids, and offers numerous health benefits including weight loss, bone health, reduction in the risks of certain cancers, and improved thyroid health. The rare Kagome kelp can only be harvested from limited areas and is prized for its mineral content, having twice the fucoidan (a naturally occurring polysaccharide) of common kelp, as well as alginic acid (aids blood pressure control), and laminarin (skin moisturizer). The 5 type red and green kelp & seaweed mix can be added to soups and salads, egg or fish dishes (ponzu sauce is recommended), as rice toppings or mixed into rice balls. To use: soak in water for 10 minutes and add directly to a variety of dishes.
