Head out safely into nature with this Pocket Thermometer Compass. Crafted in a light, compact wooden casings, the pocket-size thermometer-compasses are made by craftspeople in central Hokkaido and tested in the heart of north Japan's wild mountains.
The thermometer-compass has two displays, each with easy-to-read black dial faces with red & white markings. The temperature display measures in Celsius, while the compass is divided into 16 sub-directions.
The thermometer-compasses are crafted by woodworking artisans in Asahikawa, Hokkaido's second largest city with a tradition of high quality woodwork. It is available in either Brown Walnut or Pale Wood, both of which will gently change color as they mature.
Each piece has unique wood grains and coloring, and has been treated with child-safe urethane paint to protect it from damage. The whole is attached to a strong, vintage-finish chain clip so it can be fixed to an outdoor bag.

Sasaki Kogei is a family-owned wood workshop based in Asahikawa, in the heart of Hokkaido, who use Japan-sourced wood to create natural, personal and household products with the view of wood as a “gift from the forest” and a limited resource. Founder Kunio Sasaki first worked in Asahikawa’s established furniture industry, where he learned to make craft presents for friends from the scraps of unwanted timber. His love for woodwork blossomed from then. For over 30 years the company has upheld a mission of striving to create unique, design-centered products in an eco-friendly way. As in Sasaki-san's youth, even sawdust from the factory floor has value when recycled as fuel. Craftspeople at Sasaki Kogei work with wood's natural colors to create designs reflecting the natural world of Hokkaido, the animals and plants of the countryside around their home.
